Fall Activities – Social Distancing Edition

As the summer comes to a close, and we transition into the fall months, life looks much different than it did this time last year. It is crucial to follow the recommended guidelines to keep ourselves and those around us safe, however, coming up with activities to keep busy can be tough! This is especially true as the weather gets colder, and heading to a quiet beach or embarking on a boat adventure is not as easily feasible. So, it is time to get creative so that we can still enjoy fun activities with those who have been quarantining with us. Here are some fun fall activities to help you ease into the colder months.

fall activities

Camping

Just because the temperature has started to cool down, this doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy outdoor activities in the cool air! Camping is a great way to get outside and enjoy nature while also keeping your distance. This can be a fun weekend trip to plan, or an exciting night for kids out in the backyard! Camping close to home makes it easy and convenient to avoid having to use communal spaces. This can be done alone, with a pet, or with family who you have been in quarantine with. Pitch your tent and enjoy!

Virtual Movie Night

Having a virtual movie night is a great way to enjoy a quiet night in your own home. Netflix, as well as other streaming sites, has offered new programs that make it easy to hop on a call and watch a movie simultaneously with friends. Choose a Halloween themed movie or another fall favorite to really make it festive.

Explore Pet Adoption

Quarantine is the perfect time to finally decide to adopt a furry friend of your own – especially if you are working from home! Adopting a pet is a great way to incorporate new companionship into a more isolated lifestyle. Plus, you will be able to give a loving home to a pet in need! This is also an excellent opportunity for you to get more active and enjoy the outdoors with your new companion. Enjoying walks outside or exploring fun hiking trails will be great for the both of you.

Garden

Have you spent your summer watching your neighbors enjoy fresh, home-grown produce from their own gardens? The jealousy stops here! Creating an at-home garden for yourself is a great way to save money, avoid traveling to crowded grocery stores, and embark on a new activity. Gardens often require a lot of patience, maintenance, and time. This makes it the perfect new project for fall!

Get Crafting

Crafting is another great way to let your mind run wild and give new life to things that are already in your home. There are also many DIY project ideas available online that are fall-themed, so your home decor can be just as festive as you are! Making crafts for others is also a great way to show you care and present your loved ones with a special gift that they will cherish.

Clean and Donate

While this activity might not sound fun to most, it will to some! Cleaning out your space and making room can really benefit your overall mentality and comfort in your home. This is especially true since most of us are spending a lot more time at home than normal. Plus, it can feel really good to go through your winter items as you take them out of storage and donate what you don’t need to someone in need of staying warm this winter. Try to de-clutter gently used bedding, jackets, long-sleeve items, snow toys for children, and any canned foods you are not going to use. This can make a real difference in someone’s life this winter – and it is an excellent activity for you and your family!

Invest In Yourself

There is no better time to invest in yourself and end the year on a positive note. Being proactive about your health, wellbeing, and more can bring you confidence as we enter the last few months of the year. Focus on allowing yourself time to exercise, eat right, and spend time enjoying hobbies that bring you happiness!

Here are some self-care activities you can try:

  • Try implementing a 30-minute walk during the day where you listen to your favorite podcast
  • Learning to cook a new recipe
  • Enjoy a hobby that you love such as reading, painting, or crafting
  • Enjoy a spa-night where you indulge in making your nighttime routine extra special
  • Call a close friend and chat while sipping a warm cup of coffee

Stay Connected

Saying as connected as possible with friends and family during this time of uncertainty can definitely be helpful, especially as we are entering months typically filled with gatherings and holidays. Jump on a family Zoom call, become pen pals with a close friend, or work on a virtual project with one of your favorite coworkers.

While the end of the summer might feel untraditional this year, it is important to keep spirits and morale high as we transition into the colder months. Remember to take care of yourself, stay connected with those around you, and continue to stay safe and healthy during this time!
